How to chop a Sweet Onion
This
is the blossom end of a Sweet Onion. |

This
is the root end of a Sweet Onion. |

Using
a sharp knife, cut off the root end of the onion. You do not need to peel
the onion first. |

Cut
off the blossom end. |
|
Peel
off papery onion skin and any blemished outer layers. |
|
Put
the onion on a newly cut flat side and make a single cut, dividing the
onion in half. |

| Lay one onion-half cut-side down and repeatedly slice vertically from top to bottom, working from one side of the onion to the other. Carefully hold the onion together as you slice. Some chefs use a towel for safety. | |

For
coarse chopping, make vertical cuts 1/2 inch apart. Make thinner slices
for finer chopping. |
Turn
the cut onion-half 90°. Hold the onion together and slice across first
cuts until the onion is all chopped. Watch your fingers! |
